Our focus is the gathering of experts representing various disciplines, descendants, and communities to preserve, discuss, and reconstruct the activities of the Underground Railroad in Michigan and Ontario.
Most importantly we explore and examine the dynamic personalities, operational strategies and networks that were formed in the 19th century and their impact in the river towns of the Great Lakes Region.
Establish Michigan’s Underground Railroad history as a legitimate and essential part of the Great Lakes Region’s official narrative and grade school curriculum. In 20 years (2041), every adult who lives in the state will be familiar with the stories, heroes, and locations associated with this 19th century freedom movement.
